Two months in New Zealand (for my international friends)

I've been writing this blog about my journey to New Zealand in Czech language only... but... since there were some requests sent by several international friends of mine... I'll try to write something in my poor English again... here is kinda basic summary of the first two months in New Zealand :)

I arrived to New Zealand in the beginning of October 2012. The flight from Prague via South Korea was very comfortable and because I was not able to sleep really, I've seen almost all the movies they offer on board.

In Auckland I took a bus to the city centre and with a map in my hand start looking for a house where my CS Host (CouchSurfing.org) lives. I was succesful and spent several days there with another couchsurfer from Germany. During that period I bought a car for 2000 NZD (TradeMe.co.nz), activated my NZ sim card, paid extra insurance for the car (driving on the left side of the road is quite scary), opened a bank account, applied for an IRD (tax) number, and explored the centre of Auckland.

With my beautiful blue Toyota Corolla G Touring I was off to the North soon. On the way I experienced another wonderful place full of couchsurfers while I spent two nights in Whangarei. Our host took us for a trip to a place with hot springs (in the middle of nowhere) and to a local farmers' market :)

On Sunday (a week after my arrival to NZ) I was already expected to come to Russell in the Bay of Islands where I started working in exchange for accommodation in a holiday park. Angela and Don who run the campsite are very kind people. I was gardening or cleaning cabins 2,5 hour per day, the rest of day was free (project via HelpX.net). I distributed my details to various restaurants, cafés and hotels and I found a paid job soon. Thanks to that short-time job in a café in Russell and thanks to a friend of my Czech friend from Whangarei (yes, that's how it works here: a friend of a friend...) I was offered a job in a bigger town.

Well, after two weeks in lovely Bay of Islands I moved to Whangarei and started working at an international café in the city centre, and that's the story how I became a waitress, cashier, barista, prep in the kitchen - all in one :). My rough plan is to stay here till the end of January and earn money for my next travels. When I get a day off I try to experience as much nature beauties in this region as possible, especially local breathtaking beaches...

Sooo, hopefully my EuroEnglish is understandable somehow... and see ya on Facebook anyway ;)
